How to Cook a Pumpkin

Baked Method

  • Cut pie pumpkin in half; discard stem and stringy pulp.
  • Save seeds to dry and road in shallow baking dish.
  • Place pumpkin halves face down and cover with foil.
  • Bake in preheated over (375 degrees) about 1.5 hours until tender.
  • Cool completely.
  • Scoop flesh out of shells; mash or puree in food processor.

  • Place chunks in saucepan and cover with water.
  • Bring to boil; cook until tender.
  • Drain in colander, cool completely.

  • Place pumpkin in a pan; cover with water.
  • Boil until fork tender.
  • Drain in colander, cool completely.
  • Cut into large chunks.
  • Scrape off seeds, scoop out stringy pulp and peel pieces.
  • Mash or puree in food processor or blender.
